Board Chairman Interviewed by Hong Kong Economic Times on Transformation of Property Management Sector
Dear R.P.H.M.,
Mr. Cheung Yuk Lung, Ivan, Chairman of the Housing Managers Registration Board, was recently interviewed by the Hong Kong Economic Times. The article was published on 11 June 2026.
Chairman Cheung stated that the property management industry needs to accelerate transformation towards technology and professionalism, amid high office vacancy rates, booming new accommodation facilities and the prevalence of AI. Practitioners should strengthen cross-cultural management for student hostels and youth quarters. The industry shall adopt smart technologies to boost operational efficiency, and the Board will revise the assessment framework to include AI and cybersecurity capabilities.
While supporting enhanced fire safety regulation, we urge the government to clarify liability boundaries to protect frontline staff. Leveraging our sound regulatory systems, Hong Kong’s property management sector can explore opportunities in the Greater Bay Area via qualification mutual recognition and service export.
